MUSICAL SESSION SANKRANTI SPECIAL

MUSICAL SESSION SANKRANTI SPECIAL

ADABRAFI FRIENDS :

Today is a festival day, the first festival of this calender year - SANKRANTI and we all have celebrated the same with pomp and religious
fervor. As we planned our Musical Session also today, it was therefore not convenient for some of our members to attend as the festivities
would continue until evening. Yet, as we had very little option for other Sundays in this month, we had to go ahead to organize a session
today and except for all those who had conveyed their inability to attend, almost all other joined us for a five hour non stop musical
extravaganza.

Today we had newer friends joining us - Keerthi Mehra and Sajjad. Both are exceptional finds in their own way. Keerthi is a hugely
talented singer and she has a voice that can be easily moulded for Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle songs. Her range, her pitch too
are simply awesome. She sings so perfect that we were spellbound with her two songs with Karaoke tracks and two more without background
music score. She is a find for our group and she herself underlined that she will be a regular member and also bring in her family from next
musical session onwards.

Sajjad is a young man who works now in Hyderabad but is otherwise from Bangalore. The topography of Hyderabad city is still not a familiar
ground for him, yet as he travelled from far off Chandanagar to East Marredpally, every now and then checking up with me the route to be
taken, I knew we have a staunch Rafi Bhakt arriving. In fact, his first mail to me a few days ago announced ... "Please count me in as
your member as I am a Rafi Bhakt myself ". As soon as he arrived, we saw him take pictures and also record a few songs of our members in
his camera. Then as we requested him also to sing, his initial hestitation to sing with Karaoke tracks perhaps gave way and the song that he selected
was one which many would not choose in a mehfil that one is still no accustomed to. Fortunately for me, Elias and a few others, the song from VAASNA -
Aaj Is Darja Pila Do Ke Na Kuch Yaad Rahe - this is a song that we have always liked so much. To that extent, the choosing of this song by
Sajjad came as a very very pleasant surprise to us. Here is the video of this marvelous song :

We welcome both Keerthi and Sajjad into Rafi Foundation, Hyderabad Chapter and we are sure they will not only attend all our musical sessions regularly, but
that they will also be active members through emails, inter-acting on most topics and for initiating newer ones on Rafi Sahab and Hindi film Music.

Keerthi was spotted by me at last Sunday's Gaata Rahe Mera Dil programme that features on T NEWS Channel. Incidentally, next Sunday i.e. on
22nd January 2012 our members will be participating in this very programme. Prasun, Kamalakshi and their daughter Apoorva will be seen live on
22nd Jan 2012 on T NEWS Channel from 12.30 noon to 1.30 p.m. on Gaata Rahe Mera Dil programme. We wish them all the best in their
maiden appearance on a TV channel in Hyderabad.

I have included the email ids of both Keerthi and Sajjad in our Rafi Foundation folder and when any of you use the REPLY TO ALL feature for sending
in your messages, these two new members will also get to read the same.

I have taken some photos today which I will shortly upload on picasa webalbum and send you the link.

On 22nd Jan 2012, while I will not be available, you all can plan for the Musical Session at Sreesha's flat. I will be sending communication to all
after the same is finalized in the next two or three days.

On 29th Jan 2012 we will not be having a Musical Session as Anantrao Deshmukh is performing the UPANAYANA ceremony of his song at his
native village for which several of us have planned to go. We will leave by the RTC bus starting from the IMLIBAN bus depot (Hyderabad City Bus
Station) at 9.00 a.m. and the bus journey will take close to 3-4 hours. We will return back to the city by around 8.30 p.m. on the same day. Those of
you who wish to join us, please immediately indicate the same by email/sms/phone so that we can plan this out properly and also inform Anantrao
Deshmukh the size of our likely contingent.

We have formed our egroup - rafifoundationhyderabad@googlegroups.com and many have already confirmed their membership of the same.
Those who have not, please accept the same after I send you the invite once again, separately.

Prasun Jha presented two non-film Ghazals in the first round and stole the show today. The first one was a tribute to the ailing Mehdi Hasan and
Prasun is too good in Ghazal singing which we heard for the first time.

More on today's musical session from others who attended the same by way of inter-action among us.
